SERMONS AND TEACHING

"At each Passover seder, we ritually internalize the memory of being an oppressed stranger in a strange land, reading: In every generation, we must see ourselves as though we have personally gone out of Egypt.

But the Rambam offers a different take, subtly changing one letter. In changing lir’ot to lehar’ot, he reminds us that in every generation, we must also show ourselves as though we personally came out of Egypt.

In every generation—in the face of injustice, bigotry, and assaults to our values—there are times when we literally have to show up."
